#Post 17 : Warrior Inside: Sushant Singh Rajput

The Kai Po Che actor Sushant Singh Rajput has allegedly suspectedly died by suicide at his Bandra home in Mumbai. The man who starred Chhichhore – “A movie that beautifully dealt with how to battle suicidal thoughts. We just never know what a person is going through”. He tried to heal others through his movie because he knew what it feels like.

Though he was a brilliant Bollywood actor  but he wasn’t the first person who took this step to cure his mental pressure. There can be many reasons for why “Mental Health” is “Not a Thing in India” , can be lack of acceptance, lack of awareness, ignorance, pressure, social and cultural belief.

According to the WHO study around 200 million people in India may suffer from depression  ie; 1 in a 5 people.  This is just the data who have spoken about it. For instance, if a Indian Child goes to his/her parents talking about mental issue may be occurring due to child’s career or maybe societal factors; what happens ultimately to be quiet and……

Do not tell it to anyone kinda talks “Nahi toh sab tujhe pagal bolenge, khandaan ki naak mat kata…”.this is how it will either swept under the carpet , or they will just create more panic.

A recent study assessed where people have been asked to define “Depression” and this is how we got the data:

56% said – Someone who talks to themselves

9% said    - depressed

15% said – called them "retards"

20% said – stupid/crazy/mad.

Now this displays the stigma attached to mental health in Indian Society.

Why don’t Indians take mental Health seriously???....

A. Judgement & Fear

B. Lack of Empathy

C. Stigma & Expensive Treatment

D. Destruction of family Honour/reputation
